: Food-contact positive list revised (June 2026) — additions, deletions and tighter migration limits

Japan regulates food-contact materials under the Food Sanitation Law through MHLW Notification No. 370 and the positive-list system for synthetic resins. The June 2026 revision updates the positive list: it adds newly authorised substances, deletes several no-longer-supported monomers/additives after the transition period, and tightens migration limits for certain resin groups used in food packaging.

• Confirm every synthetic-resin food-contact material (including packaging that touches food) uses only positive-listed substances within their listed use conditions.
• Obtain supply-chain confirmation (conformity declarations) from resin/additive suppliers after each list revision.
• Check the June 2026 deletions — materials relying on removed substances must be reformulated before the end of the grace period.
• Importers placing food-contact packaging on the Japanese market carry the conformity obligation.
